While Renzo Piano (Genoa, 1937) was studying architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan, he worked with Franco Albini. The projects of his father, who was an architect as well, were a very important source of experience for him. He completed his training with trips to Great Britain and the United States between 1965 and 1970. In 1971 he founded a company with Richard Rogers, his partner on the Georges Pompidou Center project in Paris. One of the most renomated projects of his since 1993 existing company Renzo Piano Building Workshop is the redesign of the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.
